Dudley looks to make servers work on the cheap.

I'm not one to get political on this here blog, but I just couldn't pass this up because amazingly it has to do with the restaurant industry in Oregon. 

Please, allow me to give to you - insanity.

 

I really don't even know where to start with this. Well, actually I do - lets go with the million-dollar former basketball hack who is very out of touch with what's going on in Portland and the state. He's obviously never heard the adage - "Never fuck with the person making or serving you food".

I was hoping this was a joke, but the punch line never came. He seems to have this idea that servers are getting paid pretty good money and don't really deserve what they're getting paid. He's talking like tips are a guaranteed thing, and we all know that's not the case.

Not to mention he say's waitresses, so does this mean that this applies to women only? Really the best thing Dudley can do right now is: EAT AT HOME.

Foodportunity Wrap Up: Just a tease...

Would ya look at these two guys? Wouldn't you want them to cook for you? This shot of our other Sous Chef Rob and the big guy of course is Chef. I'm still trying to collect my thoughts about last nights shindig. Lets just say, I'm hoping that the massive turn out last night, means that we'll do this again next year.

Foodportunity, tonight at the Heathman.

Thought I'd drop a quick note, that tonights the night for Foodportunity Oregon at the Heathman Hotel downtown. A lot of great restaurants are going to be in attendance and serving up some of their best dishes. There's networking opportunities, and just a whole lot of fun.

You can get tickets through Brown Paper Tickets and most likely at that door.

If you can't tell, I'm pretty jazzed about tonight. I'll be handling on the video and picture taking for the restaurant, whilst we serve up our famous radish dish and a chicken liver pate that is just off the charts. What's great (for me anyways) is that I can network all round. Not only with the cooks and chefs but with the food writing community in PDX. I'd really like to see a good turnout so we can do this again next year.

Most likely I'll be live tweeting the event, from both accounts (@PrixFixeOnline & @ScratchFoods). Not to mention I'll be taking a ton of pictures and video of the festivities.

Hopefully I'll have a full re-cap tomorrow, or at the latest Wednesday.

FF: The oncoming storm...

I took this when we were on our way back from my son's 8th grade graduation in June. We were driving along the Columbia Gorge and the cloud formations were too cool looking - not to stop and take some pictures.

Hope everyone is getting to enjoy their labor day weekend, since things are a bit slow I figured I'd do a bit of cross promoting here.

I've lived the Pacific Northwest for most of my life, and never once (until now) been to Mount St. Helens. I wasn't even in state when it blew it's top in 1980.  We were living in San Diego at the time (my Dad was in the Navy), and the only reason we found out what had happened, is that a friend of the family called my mother to see if her mother was alright. It was then we found out that it had erupted.

So over the weekend we packed up the Explorer, and headed up to the mountain. We were trying to escape the heat, but it seemed to follow us (damn weather for forecasts). It was also a great time to put my camera to good use, and got some great pictures. No culinary adventure, we packed a lunch.

Time with my son is short, and I try to cram in as much as I can in the short time we have together. So it's always a joy to share things like this, with him.

Ft. Stevens

As you're reading this, my son and I are most likely getting ready to head back from beautiful Ft. Stevens (full report-ish when I return.). Nothing like a family trip with the kiddo and parents. So I leave you with this picture enjoy (I would've taken pictures, but my dumbass forgot my camera at work of all places.).

Summer Time in Lake Oswego

One of the things that I enjoy about working Lake Oswego is that it's one of the most well gardened city I've ever worked in. You always see the landscapers out watering the numerous plants, flowers and trees that line the streets throughout the city. 

This was taken a couple weeks ago, I had arrived early for work - and chef had yet to arrive. So I figured why not whip out my camera and take some pictures. I'm still learning my camera and way's to take shots, so I'm always looking for new things to shoot to make sure I get better. 

I can handle photographing food, and I'm getting pretty good at it - but as for the rest I still need some work.

Here's a shot of a flower just outside the restaurant. It's actually a pretty big pot of flowers, but instead I decided to focus on just one part of the flower.

Snapped this in the Columbia Gorge heading back from Spokane after time son's 8th grade graduation. I actually took a ton of pic's - I just need to get them all edited. Crap, and now that I think about it I need to finish the Stoller Wine Dinner pic's. I now know what I'm doing on my day's off.
